Elite Heat is a highly competitive heat that will include the best local runners and some fast out of town runners. Men and Women run together. We suggest you run this heat if you can run faster than 5:30 for a mile (men) or 6:30 for a mile (women).
The First Mile is for novices and beginners. We hope it is your “first mile” of a lifetime of running. This heat encourages new runners to participate in a race who might not be ready for a 5K. This heat is timed and those times will be factored in for awards, but if you’re a competitive runner, please run in the Age Group or Elite heats. We encourage runners that have run in previous heats to accompany friends and family in this heat.
Mini Mile for Kids is for children ages 9 and under. This heat is not timed and is not eligible for awards. All children receive the same “awards” regardless of finish.
PLEASE run in the heat you are registered for.
Failure to do so will results in incorrect results and/or disqualification. If you are unsure what heat you are entered in, compare the color coded schedule with you race bib color or ask one of our friendly volunteers.
Your finish time determines the award you are eligible for regardless of what heat you run in.
The race starts and finishes in front of the historical Clinton Presidential Center. The starting line is located slightly west of Dean Kumpuris Drive on President Clinton Avenue.
As the gun fires, runners make their way along Pres. Clinton Ave and onto E Markam St before turning left onto Sherman St. The race then swoops onto E 3rd St until making a left onto Malhon Martin St. Spectators get a good view of the runners here just past half way as the route quickly turns left onto E 2nd St before a fast right onto Ferry St before making the last turn onto Pres. Clinton Ave. There the runners enter the inspiring tree and spectator lined finishing stretch, ending at the iconic Go! Arch!

How is the race structured?
There will be different heats, including an elite heat (see below for who is eligible for elite status). All runners are chip timed, results will be based on a runner’s time compared to all others, not within their heat. Overall and Age Group results will look like it is one race. If I run the Elite Race, can I still place in my age group?
Yes, runners are eligible for all overall or age group categories that apply to them regardless of the heat they run in. For example, a 41-year-old male could run in the Elite Heat and be eligible for overall, masters, or M40-44 age category. Another example is: a 26-year-old female could run in the Women 39 and Under heat and win a top 3 award if her time was fast enough.

The Kids Mini Mile is a race of approximately ½ mile for kids aged 9 and under. All kids will race together and each finisher receives a prize!
